There isn’t much more for me to add beyond the video, but this leash makes me want a dog that much more! I get tired of holding a leash when I do walk a dog and it would feel so awkward to not have my hands free while running.

I don’t have much to add beyond the video, but I do highly recommend their durable armbands. I actually lost a phone to sweat. Other Armbands tend to absorb the sweat and pull it in towards your phone. Check out some of their great videos on their Youtube channel listed below.

I love, love, love, this belt! So honestly I can’t say much more than what I did in the video. The belt looks small, but you can fit your wallet, keys & phone in the belt. Being a heavy set girl, I love the fact that it’s not tight and can stretch when I put it on.

My Run of the First Lake Nona (13.1) Half Marathon

(Don’t have time to read this article now? Jump to the bottom and add to Pocket an iPhone/Android app that reads articles to you. Click here to jump to the bottom.)

It was a lovely Saturday morning as many of the members of the Lake Nona Run club got ready to start, for some of us our very first, half marathon run! Now it’s not my intent to scare anyone but as this was my first time doing a half marathon, I was scared! No,  really I pictured the hot Florida sun bloating my dead body as the vultures plucked out my eyes. Boy, was I silly! I didn’t see one single turkey vulture nor did I die! Granted having seen videos like, “8 Stages of Marathon Running” didn’t help.

In all due honesty, if a year ago you told me I’d do that many miles in a day I would have said you were nuts. I originally planned for Space Coast for being my first half marathon. I’d love to tell you, I’ve trained hard & eaten right every day, but why lie. Truthfully, I’m owning up to it so that you won’t be scared and say, “I didn’t do that so I can’t do this.”. It may have taken me 4 hours and 20 minutes, but I did it and you can too! I did, however, do some research before running. ;D

  • Lake Nona 13.1: Educating Runners While Helping the Community
  • How to Fuel for a Half-Marathon
  • How Can I Recover from My Half or Full Marathon?

Having a great Coach is really what prepared me best for this moment! I’m sure most are excited and a few are scared like I was. Since so many  1st time marathoner’s are running this route, I thought I’d share some tips. 😀

  • Get there early
  • Use the bathroom before the race! (TRUST ME!)
  • Make sure you use bug spray & sun block. (The bugs were not bad but better safe than annoyed. :D)
  • After you warm up to do some stretches. (There is nothing wrong with stretching during your race. Honestly, I don’t think if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have made it.)
  • Fuel belt! We will have water every 2 miles but if you don’t bring something to eat while burning 4,000+ possible calories being burned you will crash! (I brought Cheese crackers! :D) When you pick up your packet feel free to pick up some fuel! ;D
  • Don’t fret if you see no one. I’m like the slowest person in our group & I’m proud of it! You will get there when you get there and (LRNC) will be there cheering you on till you cross that line.
  • Pace yourself. Normally I do a 5 min walk as warm up and then do 1 min running 3 min walk intervals. For this, I did 1 min run 5 min walk intervals.
  • Remember to have fun! Enjoy the view. I’ll see you at the finish line! (Yes really!)
  • Don’t stop moving. You need to bring that heart rate down.
  • Stretch!!!
  • ICE Bath! Ok, there are lots of theories on how to do this, but I thought I’d be struggling to move all week but it’s been 2 days and I’m not so sore.

Raise your glass to the coach!

(Don’t have time to read this article right now? Jump to the bottom and add to Pocket an iPhone/Android app that reads articles to you. Click here to jump to the bottom.)

Last week one of my high school friends said, “Take some time out and show someone you appreciate them.”. Although I do try to show appreciation.

When most people think of a coach they think of a hard ass drill Sergeant like R. Lee Ermey from the history channel. I’m not only glad to know not all coaches are like that but to have such a great one. I actually I don’t even think of her as a coach, don’t get me wrong she can be tough and with that Puerto Rican accent she does a great job of commanding one’s attention. I once described her as the perfect blend of a drill Sargent and Mary Poppins. I don’t know how she does it but she is really firm but in such a caring way that you push yourself to not wimp out because you don’t want to let her down. It’s always easier to let oneself down but not someone else.

Many of us find it hard with our ordinary lives to be kind supportive and cheerful, yet every time I see her she is always smiling and cheerful. She is also one of the most supportive people you could ever meet. I have to say she must be superhuman! Why? Not only does she find time to train an ever growing group of runners 6-8 times a week, doing marathons, being a wife and a mom, but is also setting up Lake Nona’s first half marathon, (The Inaugural Lake Nona 13.1). This race is her dream. Till I met her and many of the other members of the Lake Nona Run Club I didn’t know that these events/races were more than just a contest of speed & stamina. This event is the first of its kind in the Lake Nona/Narcoosee area. It is set to help local families in the area with sick children through the B.A.C.O.N foundation and the Hailey Collins Foundation. For a first time event, I am amazed at how well it is going we already have about 400 runners signed up and the race is 5 months away (October 26th)! How can it not be so awesome with sponsors like Fit 2 Run, Dunkin Donuts, Arise Christian Church, Nona Platinum Salon & Spa, Tecta America, A1 Orange, Pioneers, East group properties, Anderson Moopen Orthodontist, Amazonas Latin Grill, Crossfit Broken Chains, N.O.W. Matters more Foundation, NICOR General Contractor, and East Orange Wellness & Injury Center it truly is off to a great start. I must admit this race is no longer a dream but a reality.

After having read all that you can see why our coach is so awesome. The funny part is it doesn’t end there. Just when you already think she must be related to Wonder Women there is even more. You wouldn’t know by looking at her or by her demeanor because she is always so cheerful but on top of all this awesomeness, Lilliana is a mom of some great kids but one of them has a rare disease called Evans Disease. I don’t know much personally about the disease other than it is a rare autoimmune disease that is manageable through various treatments. I would go into Evans Disease but why when she also has an awesome blog, Dealing with Evans, that would be a much better source.

So take a moment with me and raise your glass, to this awesome woman, mother, wife, friend & coach, Lilliana Pickens!
